a co-dependent pampered pooch !!!!

It's one of those things you never see coming. I have never been a dog-person. Scott on the other hand is the dog whisperer. Needless to say this dog has maneuvered her way into our hearts by those big brown eyes and droopy ears. The gun-shy hunting dog that begins to shake whenever our voices are raised or there is any tension in the home. The dog that is happy whenever we are happy, sad when we are sad and unbelievable excited when Scott comes home from work. How can you not love this dog? So here we are moving away for a year and all that worries me late at night is not who will rent the house but who will love this dog. I have been slayed by this dog...I think I worry more about her then Scott. Who would have thunk.
BTW... we have two interested renters, now who do we choose?

I found you! I remember the story of the pooch as we talked about the big baby I was fostering back then when Eric was away. Wasn't that a lifetime ago...first my boss and now my friend. How blessed we are in this life. I will read, I will pray and I will post =) Thanks for the kick in the pants for my blog too. I will remain diligent. Hugs to you! Lisa

Scott,

Nice photo with your dog. We've been quite busy lately and that may excuse our not communicating much since the middle of last month. But check this out: I’ve been offered a job as the Professor of Conflict Resolution at the Peace Keeping & Stability Operations Institute at the Army War College in Carlisle PA. Amy is there now (Saturday, 16 June) and has already bought a house! We will be coming back to the States much sooner than we expected and into an opportunity that didn’t even exist two months ago.

Here’s what happened; last year one of the Army fellas I worked for was ordered to Harvard for year-long fellowship. There he met a woman named Sarah Sewall, the Director of the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, part of the Kennedy School of Government. She wanted to stand up a genocide intervention mechanism that would use military planning experts to build the real “how could you actually do this if you had the political will to stop the killing” concept. She worked with the Army War College and developed a working relationship that allows a person, (me, as it turns out) to work for the Carr Center, but be at the Army War College and on the Army payroll where that person could make and maintain connections to the experienced military planners she needs to start this program. After the first year of figuring out the how, we will move it into the US government policy making realm, then the legal, human rights and international organizations such as the UN and NATO will have at it. Initially it’s expected to last about 4 years, but it’ll continue well beyond that, I’m sure.

I’ve been talking to her since the middle of May and we’ve just completed the job description. Once I’ve signed the pay schedule, we’re off. This is an enormous opportunity. I’ll finish my masters next year and if things work well (as I think they will) I may well push this into further academic and government service possibilities. Amazing!

Amy and the kids will be back in Lopez in late June. I may be back there around the middle to the end of July. We have to be in Pennsylvania by the first of September for the kids to start school and me to start work.

I know you’ll be gone by the beginning of August, but when exactly do you leave in July? There is a slim chance I’ll be back there around the middle to the end of that month and it’d be good to say so long in person.

Love you, brother, you’re doing a great thing!
Mike
